Purpose of the Trail

This trail was created to help everyone—including people who may feel anxious about being in natural environments—feel confident exploring the outdoors. It’s designed to be fully accessible and offers a gentle way to discover the forest of Fontainebleau.

Discover the Historic Site of La Faisanderie

La Faisanderie was originally built under King Louis XIV and renovated by Napoleon III. It was used to raise up to 4,000 pheasants each year, which were released into the royal hunting grounds four times a year. The largest of these grounds was the "Grand Parquet" at 357 hectares. The pheasant breeding activity ended in 1871 when the forest became State property.

Flora: Common Heather (Calluna)

Along the trail, you’ll see common heather, a low-growing pink-flowered plant from the heather family. It blooms in summer and is typical of open natural environments.

Fauna & Open Environments

Open areas in the forest are vital for biodiversity. In the Fontainebleau Forest, they cover over 1,500 hectares and are home to many plant and animal species. Some, like the woodlark (a small bird that nests on the ground), are protected.

A Project by ONF and AFF
