Amponville

Amponville is located in the northern part of the Gâtinais plateau, within the Gâtinais Français Regional Natural Park, near the wooded areas of the Fontainebleau forest. It is situated in the Seine-et-Marne department of the Île-de-France region, approximately 34.15 km from Melun, the prefecture, and 19.25 km from Fontainebleau, the sub-prefecture. The commune is also part of the La Chapelle-la-Reine life basin.
Amponville is protected under regulatory measures aimed at preserving remarkable natural spaces and their associated biodiversity. The Gâtinais Français Regional Natural Park, established in 1999 and covering 75,567 hectares, is rich in natural habitats, flora, and fauna, serving as a crucial part of the ecological corridors in the southern Île-de-France area.
Two additional protected areas exist within the commune: the central zone and transition zone of the "Fontainebleau and Gâtinais" biosphere reserve, created in 1998 and encompassing 150,544 hectares. This biosphere reserve consists of a diverse ecosystem that includes agricultural lands, the famous Fontainebleau forest, and the Seine Valley.
Historically, the area has seen various ownership transitions, notably involving Hélyon and Jean de Jacqueville, influential figures during the feudal era. The land was transferred to the Templars in 1262 and later became associated with the Knights Hospitaller.
