Aufferville

Aufferville is a rural commune in the southwestern part of the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region, with a population of 483 as of 2021. It is located near the southern limit of the Gâtinais French Regional Nature Park and lies 41.86 km from Melun, 25.35 km from Fontainebleau, and 9.48 km from Nemours, which has administratively governed the commune since 2015.
Historically, the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with evidence of tool-making near Maison-Rouge. In the Roman period, villas were established as country homes. First documented in a 1192 charter as Offervilla, it belonged to the Gâtinais region, with ties to the archbishopric of Sens. The lordship of Fargeville within Aufferville was linked to the Hospitalers, formerly the Knights Templar.
By the 1900s, the commune was primarily agricultural, featuring farming and livestock. During World War II, local administration continued under various regimes. The post-war period began with hardships but improved with American Marshall Plan assistance, introducing tractors. The area included hamlets like Grigny, Jarville, and Maison-Rouge, each with unique historical narratives related to local governance and ecclesiastical affiliations.
