Bougligny

Bougligny is a village in the Seine-et-Marne department of Île-de-France, with 722 residents as of 2021. It’s located about 43 kilometers from Melun, 26 kilometers from Fontainebleau, and 10 kilometers from Nemours. The village lies 80 kilometers south of Paris and is part of the Souppes-sur-Loing area.
Bougligny has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with several historical artifacts found in the area. These include Neolithic polishing stones, an ancient cave along the old Paris-Lyon route, and a Merovingian cemetery at “La Roche-aux-Fées.”
The village was first mentioned in the 12th century in a document signed by the Lord of Bougligny. In 1285, it became part of the royal domain, and in 1789 it was listed under the jurisdiction of Nemours.
The Church of the Nativity of the Holy Virgin was built in the 13th century, with its choir and bell tower later designated as historical monuments in 1926. Located on a main route between Paris and Lyon, Bougligny once had a significant postal relay until the late 17th century and later established a telegraph post in the hamlet of Quenonville.
