Bransles

Bransles is a small village in the Seine-et-Marne department of Île-de-France, located about 21 kilometers south of Nemours. It was once a walled town with moats and held special rights granted by French kings, including two annual fairs on May 3 and September 1, where livestock was mainly traded. However, the town was largely destroyed in the 13th century during wars with England, leaving behind remnants of battle like bones, horse shoes, and armor fragments, still found in fields nearby in the early 1800s.
In the 16th century, Bransles belonged to Aimond d'Égreville and later came under the care of Anne de Pisseleu, Duchess of Étampes, in 1555. The village church, originally dedicated to Saint Méen, was rebuilt during the Renaissance and rededicated to Saint Louis. A Benedictine priory named after Saint Loup was attached to the parish. In 1123, Archbishop Henri of Sens granted the church and priory to the Saint-Pierre de Ferrières Abbey, requiring that church offerings and tithes be shared with the Abbey, the Sainte-Rose convent, and the parish priest.
On June 28, 1944, during World War II, a British RAF Lancaster bomber returning from a mission was shot down over Bransles. The seven crew members were laid to rest in the village cemetery, marking a historical event remembered by the community.
