Chevrainvilliers

Chevrainvilliers is a rural town in the Seine-et-Marne department of the Île-de-France region, about 39 km from Melun and 23 km from Fontainebleau. It’s also part of the Nemours district and close to the Nemours living area. Additionally, the town is within the Gâtinais Regional Natural Park, a protected area established in 1999. The park spans over 75,500 hectares and is vital for preserving diverse natural habitats and wildlife. Chevrainvilliers is also part of the “Fontainebleau and Gâtinais” biosphere reserve, designated in 1998, covering over 150,500 hectares. This reserve, known for its biodiversity, includes three main areas: agricultural lands in the west, the central Fontainebleau Forest, and the Seine Valley to the east. The biosphere reserve is managed by a unique association that also focuses on education and scientific research.

As of January 2024, Chevrainvilliers is classified as a rural community with dispersed housing. While outside urban centers, it falls within the Paris metropolitan area. Agricultural land makes up 93% of its area, with urban zones and forest covering the remaining land.
