Paley

Paley is a small, scenic village in the Lunain Valley, around 15 km southeast of Nemours. It is surrounded by green fields, rivers, and rich farmland, making it a peaceful and inviting place. The village center, known as Le Bourg, has charming stone houses, a central square with historic stone walls, and a view of St. George's Church, a 12th-century Gothic structure. The church’s unique features include a four-sided bell tower with gargoyles and an entrance marked by a revolutionary inscription from 1794.
Nearby, remnants of a 12th-century fortress still stand. Originally built to protect the Lunain River, it includes strong walls, a former pigeon tower, and vaulted cellars. Over the years, parts of the main residence have been rebuilt, keeping its fortified appearance.
Recently, Paley’s historic château was purchased by Ismaël and Laurie, a couple with artistic backgrounds. They were drawn to its medieval charm and unique architecture. Laurie, an arts professional, and Ismaël, a creative director, have begun transforming the château into a cultural hub. They have hosted artist residencies, concerts, and performances and plan further restoration and public events, including a heritage festival in June. Future plans also include artist studios, a public garden, and a guesthouse to make this historic site a vibrant cultural landmark.
