Tousson

Tousson is a small commune in the Seine-et-Marne department of the Île-de-France region. It’s located within the Gâtinais Regional Natural Park, about 30.6 km from Melun and 25.8 km from Fontainebleau. Tousson is also part of the Milly-la-Forêt living area.

Historically, Tousson was once under the authority of the Archbishop of Sens and belonged to Melun’s jurisdiction during the French Revolution. Its main historical site is a church dating back to the 12th century. By the late 19th century, this church was in poor condition and was restored by Abbé Gagneux, the parish priest. Known for his integrity, he raised funds to repair both Tousson’s church and the nearby church in Nanteau-sur-Essonne. His efforts earned him an honorary medal.

In 1909, the church was struck by lightning during a storm, partially destroying the bell tower despite the quick efforts of locals and firefighters to save it.
