Villemer

Villemer is a rural town in the south of Seine-et-Marne, about 10 km south of Moret-sur-Loing. It has a population of 755 residents, called Villemerois and Villemeroises, and covers 1,854 hectares. The town is part of the Fontainebleau district and the Nemours canton, and it belongs to the Moret Seine & Loing Community of Communes. Villemer consists of the main village and six hamlets: Rebours, Villeron, Le Luat, Montmery, Le Coudray, and Le Gallois.
One notable site is the **Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption**, with architecture dating back to the 12th-16th centuries. The church has a unique square bell tower, Gothic-style arches, and contains 15th-century frescoes, a statue of Saint Eloi from the 16th century, and an 18th-century wooden altarpiece.
The **Salle Polyvalente Albert Dormier** honors Albert Dormier, born in Villemer in 1922. He served as mayor from 1983 to 1995 and significantly contributed to the community. During his tenure, the multipurpose hall was built in 1985. In 2021, the hall was renamed in his memory.
Villemer has a rich history of resistance during WWII, with figures like Roberte Breuilly, who endured imprisonment and was awarded the Resistance Medal and the Legion of Honor for her bravery.
