History
The area's history dates back to the Mesolithic period, evidenced by prehistoric sites. During the Gallic era, the Fontainebleau forest marked a boundary between tribes. The region later saw the establishment of a small village due to a local spring. Notable historical figures include the Templars, who founded a commandery in the 13th century.
In the 16th century, during religious wars, King Henri IV visited and was generously offered food by the locals. Over time, land ownership shifted through various noble families until the 18th century, when the feudal rights were dissolved during the French Revolution, leading to the communal division of lands.
In the 19th century, the region became a site for military exercises and film production. Notable filmmakers shot scenes in the forest, leveraging its picturesque landscapes. The area faced turmoil during both World Wars, with significant military activity and resistance efforts. In contemporary times, the commune has seen urban development and environmental challenges, including damage from storms.
