History

Historically, the area was known as Harvillia in 1294, and Hugues d'Arville was the lord of the parish in 1166. The village was associated with the archdeaconry and deanery of Ferrières in the 18th century. By 1692, it was noted that the name Arville may derive from "Arroli villaris," and its portion of income was valued at 400 livres. In 1555, the cardinal of Tournon declared that Arville, under the abbey of Ferrières, had always been governed by local customs.

The commune also includes a hamlet called Le Charmoy and a farm known as Le Marteau. Its patron saint is Saint Peter.
